More Than A Place To Meet

More Than A Place To Meet

Many of us meet for church in a school. Here are some ways Trinity Church Lockleys has tried to bless the school and build relationship with it.

We meet at Brooklyn Park Primary School. Some of things we’ve done to help the school are:

  • Volunteer from time to time with their BBQ fundraisers and working bees.
  • When the school started a new playgroup to attract new families, one of our members volunteered to help run it (even though she doesn’t have any kids in the playgroup, or the school!) and has been doing so ever since.
  • In Term 4 last year, we ran a lunchtime music program where two of our members taught kids Christmas carols. Those kids then became the ‘Brooklyn Park Christmas Choir’ who performed at our Carols Service and of course invited all their family. It was great!
  • Last term, we learned that the school was holding a fundraiser to install a new swing set, and we asked if we could open it up to church members if they wanted to give too. Members from church ended up giving $820, and the school was so chuffed that the Principal came along to church recently to thank us.

The reason we’ve made an effort to help the school is because we want to be good guests. Of course, it’s helpful to be on good terms with our landlords. But more than that, we want to bless them just because it’s a good thing to do, and a good witness to Christ. As Jesus said:

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

We’re really grateful for our school and want to keep blessing them in the future. We’re confident our efforts have made a difference in our relationship. So if you’re meeting in a school, what are some of the ways you could bless them, and build relationships with them?
