Looking Back, Looking Forward

Looking Back, Looking Forward

By now you’ll have heard the exciting news that it’s all systems go for the site redevelopment project for Trinity Church Adelaide! We are so thankful to God for His incredible provision, and for the forward-looking generosity of His people way back in 1994 when the congregation purchased the land (which until now has served as our church car park) with a view to building bigger facilities so more people in Adelaide might come under the sound of the gospel.

History records, however, that God had other ideas! Over the last 32 years we have gone through more than 7 unsuccessful attempts to redevelop; and yet nothing is wasted in God’s world: those ‘failures’ led us to start planting churches, and as of last month there are now 15 churches in the Trinity Network. How good is our God!

With this once-in-a-century site redevelopment project, we have the opportunity to provide fantastic new ministry facilities for gospel proclamation for generations to come. And having over 1,000 university students living ‘on-site’ will help us play our part in ‘making disciples of all nations’ (Matthew 28).

Please pray for our church family as we prepare for this move. At one level, relocating after 188 years is quite significant; and yet nothing about who we are or what we stand for will look any different, for we are a church family committed to inviting all to join us as adopted children of the same Heavenly Father, with the same eldest sibling – Jesus. And those convictions and practices will continue whether we happen to meet in an old neo-gothic stone building, or in a modern university lecture theatre with comfortable seating, air-conditioning and great acoustics! After all, ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever’ (Hebrews 13:8); so in Him is our confidence, our hope, and our joy.

Before we hold our first gatherings off-site on Sunday 10 May, we will hold our final Thanksgiving Services on-site at 88 North Terrace on Sunday 3 May. You’re most welcome to join us on that day, particularly if Trinity Church Adelaide has played a significant part in your Christian story. We’ll be holding our regular Sunday services at 9am, 10:45am (English and Mandarin) and 6pm, and there will be some additional afternoon celebrations. All the details will be on our website closer to the time – for now, please be aware that we no longer have access to our church car park, although excellent alternative car parking arrangements are already in place.

And please ‘pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured’ (2 Thessalonians 3:1). That’s why we do what we do!

In case you’re wondering why we’ve lost access to our car park even before our offsite move – it’s to enable early construction to commence so that the project can be finished before the start of Semester 2, 2028. When you realise that the original plan called for us to be off-site for up to 3 years, and that this will get us back home in less than 2.5 years, we thought it was worth the inconvenience!
